From The Preacherâs Heart
On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence. This document declared that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves a new nation and were no longer under British rule. In essence these founding fathers broke free of the thing that was oppressing them and started a new life. Today we celebrate that day of freedom with things like cookouts and fireworks. The majority of businesses and almost all of the government shut down in observance of this day. We, as Americans, are very proud of this independence. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says âTherefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.â God is telling us we have a new chance! We are a new creature! We are no longer captive to the things that kept us in bonds before. We get a do over! Wow! Talk about Independence Day. Now that should be something to get excited about! So here is the question; why donât we celebrate this? I think we should wake up every day praising God that we are not that person we used to be. We should be asking God to show us how we can glorify him. Have you ever talked to a die-hard veteran? He will do anything in his power to defend that flag and bring honor to it. We, as Christians, should do the same. We should do anything necessary to give a defense of our faith and bring honor to our Heavenly Father. The greatest independence one ever receives come from being at piece with the Father. Never forget who you were and what you are now. You were once a hell bound sinner. Now, thanks to Jesus, you are a heaven bound saint. I often hear the argument about who put Jesus on the cross. Some say the Jews did it while others say the Romans did it. I believe it was me. If I was the only sinner in this world nothing would have stopped Jesus from that cross. He freed me from a debt that was not his to pay. Talk about your independence! One day this great nation could fall but your freedom in Christ will endure forever!
